PROFESSIONAL STATEMENT:

As an Academic Librarian, I am not a traditional classroom teacher yet I affect the critical thinking skills, higher level decision making and the promise of discovery for each student interaction.  These relationships define my role and add emphasis to the importance of research support for both students and teaching faculty and I consider each collaboration a vital chance to develop independent researchers.    I am very committed to my work.

My body of scholarship has grown consistently during my tenure at LIU Post.  There are considerable gaps in current research with in my field due to the constant changing trends in education and technology. These gaps are opportunities and trigger new studies and writing.  My most recent completed and accepted study, Managing Curriculum Materials Collection: One Academic Library Experience” is slated to be published in January 2013.

I am a keen participant on committees and other activities outside of my department and feel strongly that my service contributes to a better educational experience for the community at large.Bottom of Form

GRANTS:

I applied for a grant from IMLS (Institute of Museum and Library Services) in collaboration with the Palmer School of Library Science and the Kornreich Technology Center, National Center for Disability Services in 2010.  While initially the grant was not funded, reviewers remarks were positive and it is the intention of the team to reapply at some later date. The grant proposed assistive technology training to school librarians, students in the Palmer School and pre-service special education teachers.

In academic year  (2007-08), I was a member of the “Teaching American History” grant team.  The program was designed to raise student achievement by improving secondary social studies teachers  knowledge and understanding of American History .  I was serving as coordinator of a library component at the events and summer institute.
